Family Therapy for Differently Abled Individuals
“Sometimes It takes Courage to be Brave”
Families with differently abled children/adults face many unique and ongoing challenges which can be very distressful for everyone. The focus is often only on providing the best care and solutions to help the challenged members, while the needs of the rest of the family may go unaddressed.
Parents, siblings and caregivers live with the perpetual pain of seeing the struggles of their loved ones, with the heartbreak of knowing that some of these conditions are permanent, with the aggravations that come with managing daily life and with the guilt that follows and so much more. They need a safe and comforting space where they can get off this roller- coaster, take a breath and recharge. Therapy offers the understanding and healing support needed to be heard and to learn and develop coping skills, resilience and strategies to help each other.
A family that feels understood and finds validation for their complicated emotions can support their loved one with greater empathy and go the distance.
